About
Sugandhesa Temple is an ancient 10th-century stone temple located in Pattan town, Baramulla district, Jammu and Kashmir. Built between 900 and 904 CE by Queen Sugandha, wife of King Sankaravarman of the Utpala Dynasty, the temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva under the name Sugandhesvara. Constructed of finely carved grey limestone blocks, it exhibits classic Kashmiri architectural features including a double-stepped square plinth, trefoiled entrance arches, and triangular pediments. The sanctum holds remnants of carved relief panels of divine attendants and fluted stone pillars. Situated along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, it is a Monument of National Importance under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
