About

Shri Ram Raja Mandir in Orchha is an extraordinary sacred site — the only temple in the world where Lord Rama is officially worshipped and served as an Emperor and reigning monarch ('Raja'). Originally the royal palace of Queen Ganeshi Bai (consort of King Madhukar Shah), the deity was placed here temporarily upon arrival from Ayodhya in 1574 CE and could not be moved according to the divine pact. To this day, the Madhya Pradesh Police Department presents a formal 4-round guard of honor and royal salute to Lord Rama daily.
