About
Ranchi Pahari Mandir (Pahari Shiva Temple) in Ranchi, Jharkhand, is a significant Shiva temple atop a rocky hill accessible via 468 steps, overlooking the city of Ranchi. The original shrine dates to the 18th century, with the current stone temple complex built in 1914 and expanded subsequently. The hilltop location affords panoramic views of the city and surrounding Chotanagpur plateau.
The main temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Jharkhand. The rocky hilltop setting, with the temple rising dramatically from bare granite outcrops, gives it a distinctive character. During Shivratri, the entire hill is illuminated and lakhs of devotees climb the steps throughout the night. The temple is the spiritual landmark of Ranchi city.
