About

Naina Devi Temple atop a hill in Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas — where the eyes (naina) of Sati are said to have fallen. The temple sits dramatically on a triangular hilltop with views of the Gobind Sagar reservoir (Bhakra Dam lake) below. The current stone temple complex was largely rebuilt after a devastating landslide in 1880 and subsequent reconstructions.

The presiding deity Naina Devi is worshipped in the form of two eyes (nainas). The complex also includes shrines to Bhairon Nath, Bal Ganesh, and Lion. A ropeway connects the hilltop shrine to the base. The Sawan Navratri and Chaitra Navratri fairs attract over 5 lakh devotees each. The setting — hilltop views of the Himalayan foothills and the shimmering blue reservoir — is exceptionally scenic.
