About

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple near Dwarka in Gujarat enshrines one of the 12 Jyotirlingas — the most sacred Shiva shrines in India. The Naganath (Lord of Serpents) form of Shiva here is associated with liberation from all poisonous afflictions. The temple site is ancient, though the current temple and surrounding complex were significantly rebuilt in the 20th century.

The most iconic feature of the modern complex is the colossal 25-metre seated Shiva statue — one of the largest in the world — inaugurated in the 1990s and visible from the main highway. The statue is constructed from reinforced concrete clad in stone and faces the Arabian Sea. The surrounding complex includes mandapas, a large courtyard, and pilgrim facilities. Combined with the nearby Dwarkadhish Temple, Nageshwar makes Dwarka one of the spiritually richest destinations on the Gujarat coast.
