About

Consecrated around 900–925 CE by Chandela ruler Harshadeva, Matangeshwar Temple is the oldest temple among Khajuraho's famed Western Group and the only one in the world heritage zone that has maintained uninterrupted daily worship since antiquity. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple features a square floor plan and an enormous 8-foot (2.5 m) tall polished stone lingam in its sanctum, drawing thousands of devotees during Maha Shivaratri.
