About
Lalji Temple is a imposing Eka-Ratna laterite stone temple complex built in 1658 CE by Malla King Bir Singha II in Bishnupur, Bankura district. Dedicated to Radha-Lalji, the temple stands on a square, elevated laterite plinth enclosed within a fortified boundary wall with a grand gateway (Nahar Darwaja). Built in the classic Malla Eka-Ratna style with a square sanctum, curved roof, and single central tower, the exterior retains fine stucco ornamentation showing Pauranic scenes, floral bands, and mythological lions. A separate Orissan-style stone tower dedicated to Raghunathji stands within the court. It is protected by the ASI.
