About

Kumari Amman Temple, dedicated to Goddess Devi Kanya Kumari (the Virgin Goddess), is an ancient 3,000-year-old sea-front temple located at the southernmost tip of mainland India in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. Situated at the sacred confluence of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean, it is celebrated as one of the 108 Shakti Peethas. The idol of Devi Kanya Kumari is famous for her diamond nose ring, whose bright sparkle was historically said to beacon maritime sailors. Mentioned in the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Sangam literature, the temple features Dravidian stone architecture with a square prakaram, carved pillars, and a seaside stone gopuram. It is managed by the HR&CE Department of Tamil Nadu.
