About

Kalupur Swaminarayan Temple, Ahmedabad — also called the Ahmedabad Swaminarayan Temple — was the very first temple built by Swami Sahajanand Swami (Swaminarayan) himself, consecrated in 1822. It is one of the two main desh-vibhag temples and the supreme headquarters of the Ahmedabad Gadi of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.

The temple is celebrated for its extraordinary carved teak wood interiors — shikhars, jharokas (projecting balconies), and mandapas — alongside the stone outer structure. The main shrine houses Narnarayan and Lakshminarayan deities installed by Swaminarayan himself. The wooden shikhars, intricately carved over many decades, are considered among the finest examples of Gujarati woodworking. The surrounding haveli complex includes dharmshalas for pilgrims and houses the hereditary acharya of the Ahmedabad Gadi.
