About
Kalachand Temple in Bishnupur is the earliest surviving Eka-Ratna (single-pinnacled) laterite stone temple in the historic Malla capital. Constructed in 1656 CE by Malla King Raghunath Singha, it stands on a square plinth measuring 11.1 meters on each side with a height of 9.2 meters. Built entirely of red laterite stone blocks covered with fine lime stucco, the temple features a characteristic curved Chala roof topped by a single sikhara tower. The outer walls display low-relief carvings depicting Krishna-lila episodes, Pauranic legends, dancers, and musicians. It is an ASI-protected monument of national importance.
