About
ISKCON Chandrodaya Mandir, Mayapur (also called the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium) in Nadia district, West Bengal, is the most ambitious Hindu temple construction project of modern times. When completed, it will stand 113 metres (370 feet) tall — the world's tallest religious structure — dedicated to Radha-Madhava. Located at the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (founder of Gaudiya Vaishnavism), the project was conceived by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
The massive complex built from marble and stone features a central dome housing a working model of the Vedic cosmological universe. The exterior is designed in the Vedic architectural tradition with multiple columns, mandapas, and ornate carvings. Phases of construction began in the 2010s. The site of Mayapur is itself the holiest location for the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition — it is also the location of ISKCON's global headquarters and the largest Vaishnava pilgrimage site in Bengal.
