About
Hutheesing Jain Temple in Ahmedabad is a masterpiece of 19th-century Jain temple architecture, built in 1848 during a great famine by Seth Hutheesing Kesarising as a tribute to the 15th Jain Tirthankara Dharmanath. Constructed from fine white Dhrangadhra marble over 26 years, the temple represents the pinnacle of the Maru-Gurjara architectural tradition.
The complex contains 52 small shrines (deris) dedicated to the 52 Jain shravaks (lay followers), all exquisitely carved with intricate marble jali (lattice screens), miniature shikhars, and detailed friezes of the Jain cosmos. The craftsmanship rivals the medieval Dilwara temples at Mount Abu. Set in a large walled courtyard, it remains a living place of Jain worship and is one of the finest surviving examples of 19th-century Hindu-Jain stone carving in Gujarat.
