About
Dharapat Stone Deul, locally known as Shyamchand Thakurer Mandir or Nengta Thakur Temple, is an ancient stone deul located in Dharapat village, Bishnupur subdivision, Bankura district. The origin of the site dates back to the 11th–12th century CE as a Jain-Hindu sacred site. The current laterite Rekh Deul tower was reconstructed around 1694–1704 CE by King Advish of Dharapat over an earlier damaged stone structure. The exterior walls feature four distinct flying lion (Gajasimha) stone sculptures projecting from the spire, along with carved stone relief panels of Jain Tirthankaras (Parshvanatha and Rishabhanatha) that were later adapted into Vaishnava worship. It is an ASI-protected monument.
