About
Bumzuva (also spelled Bumazuv or Bhaumajo) Cave and Temple is a rare archaeological site situated in Bumzuva village near Bawan (Mattan) in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir. Dating from the 10th to 12th century CE, the site combines artificial rock-cut cave sanctuaries carved into limestone cliffs with structural stone facades. The main cave temple features a carved stone portal with a prominent trefoil arch and pediment leading into a rock-cut sanctum containing a Shiva Lingam. Nearby stand two smaller freestanding stone shrines. It is a Centrally Protected Monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
