About
Babor Temples, located at Manwal on the Udhampur-Dhar Road in Udhampur district, is a group of seven ancient stone temples representing the architectural glory of the medieval Durgara (Dogra) kingdom. Built during the 9th to 10th century CE when Babbapura served as the royal capital, the site includes prominent structures such as the Devi Bhagwati Temple, Shiva Temple at Thalora, and Dera Temple. Built of massive carved grey sandstone blocks assembled dry without mortar, the temples feature sculptured pillars, Ganga-Yamuna doorway figures, intricate ceiling slabs, and ceiling lintels carved with dancing deities. The complex is protected and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
