About
Akshardham Mandir, New Delhi is one of the largest Hindu temple complexes in the world, inaugurated in November 2005 by the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS). Built entirely from Rajasthani pink sandstone — without the use of steel — it spans 8,000 tonnes of stone carved by over 11,000 craftsmen and volunteers.
The central monument is 141 feet tall, 316 feet wide, and 356 feet long, adorned with 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 domes, and over 20,000 stone-carved figures of yogis, devotees, and deities. Designed in the traditional Nagara style, the complex features a Gajendra Peetha (elephant plinth), musical fountain, exhibitions on India's heritage, and a boat ride through 10,000 years of Indian history. It holds Guinness World Records as the largest comprehensive Hindu temple.
